Veteran’s Legacy Project
March 1, 2024Nestled in the heart of Farmingdale, NY, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum stands as a serene haven, not only as a final resting place but also as a living testament to the beauty of nature. Recent developments within the cemetery have brought about a significant transformation along the southern border, specifically in block 1, section 55. This revitalization project has not only enhanced the ground’s aesthetics but has also contributed to the conservation efforts in the region.
The first step in this ambitious project involved the removal of invasive species that had taken root along the southern border. Addressing issues such as poison ivy, rampant vines, and undesirable flora was crucial to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment. This meticulous process laid the groundwork for what would become a remarkable journey of renewal.
With a clean slate and a commitment to enriching the landscape, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum introduced an extensive variety of plant materials. Native evergreens, flowering trees, and an array of shrubs were carefully chosen to complement the existing beauty of the park. The selection of flora aimed not only to enhance the visual appeal but also to promote biodiversity within the cemetery.
The project, spanning approximately 300 linear feet along block 1, section 55, is a testament to the dedication of Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum towards creating a sustainable and vibrant environment. By expanding the horizons of the park, this initiative seeks to offer visitors a renewed sense of tranquility and connection with nature.
Beyond the visual enhancements, the revitalization project at Pinelawn serves a greater purpose – to foster a harmonious coexistence between the memorial park and the natural world. The careful selection of plant species reflects a commitment to sustainability, ensuring that the ecosystem thrives for generations to come.
