August 6, 2019Farmingdale, NY – July 2019 – On Sunday, August 4th, 2019, Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum will offer guests the chance to take part in their impressive ladybug release event. This hands-on event will take place in Pinelawn’s rose garden and will educate guests on the benefits of releasing a natural predator into the environment as opposed to using potentially harmful chemicals.
At this fun educational event, children and adults alike will have the opportunity to help release the 150,000 ladybugs throughout Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum’s rose garden in order to control a common pest known as the Aphid. The Aphid can be harmful to the health of the arboreta and plants that Pinelawn works so hard to protect, however, by releasing the Aphid’s natural predator, using harmful chemical pesticides can be avoided. This helps to maintain a healthy environment that is safe for the plants, arboreta, flowers, and animal species that reside in Pinelawn. In addition to the release, children will have the opportunity to create a Ladybug craft, which they can take home to show all they’ve learned from the event.
“At Pinelawn, we are constantly exploring new, effective, and safe ways to preserve and protect our arboreta. This is why we are very excited for our Ladybug Release, which has also become a great educational and fun event for families to enjoy together,” said Justin Locke, President of Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum.
The free event begins at the courtyard side of Pinelawn’s office at 2030 Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale, New York. Guests are asked to sign in at 11:30 am before the start of the event, which will begin at 12:00 pm. Additionally, light refreshments will be served.
While this is a free event, guests must register online here prior to attending.
