What would you like to share about your loved one’s service and dedication within the military?
My Dad enlisted at age 18. After basic training, shipped out to Saipan. Though the war had officially ended, no one had advised the Japanese on the island that Japan had surrendered. They continued to fight. My Dad's job was to search the many caves on the island where the Japanese were hiding. The caves were booby trapped with mines. Luckily my Dad made it home but many of those he served with did not. My Dad put his life on the line at the age of 18.
What is your favorite memory of your loved one? This does not have to be related to his/her military service.
My Dad returned home and wanted nothing more than to work hard for his country. At one point he had 3 jobs at once. He grew up during the depression. But he always remained positive and optimistic. When asked how he was doing, he always replied "I'm terrific!"
