Veteran’s Legacy Project
May 10, 2022
Candlelight Vigil, May 21st & 22nd 2022
May 26, 2022This month, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum will begin to honor the many dedicated veterans laid to rest on the property with the launch of the Pinelawn Veteran’s Legacy Project. An ongoing initiative, Pinelawn will share families’ unique stories about their loved ones laid to rest on the property, in appreciation of their service and bravery.
“We want to pay tribute to the many men and women who have served our country and resting peacefully now at Pinelawn. Their sense of duty and patriotism is like no other and in a world now when heroes need to be celebrated, we want to do our part in helping our families honor and remember their loved ones’ brave contributions to our country,” said Justin Locke, President and CEO, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum.
Jennifer Ayers, of Baldwin, remembers her late father, Patrick Ayers, an E8 First Sergeant in the Army, for his great smile and unwavering love for his family. “My dad loved being in the military and our family was so proud of his 20+ years of service. He was strong, reliable, and loved his children and grandchildren as fiercely as they loved him.” During Patrick’s tenure in the Army, he trained soldiers and served as a member of the military police. Patrick Ayers’ story will be among the many, featured in the Pinelawn Veteran’s Legacy Project, which will enable Patrick’s story to live on and allow families to feel connected to those they have lost.
For the first time, Pinelawn will also play a leading role to help honor our country’s military at the upcoming Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. A sponsor of the Memorial Day Weekend show, this year the Bethpage Air Show will be taking place on Saturday, May 28, 2022, and Sunday, May 29, 2022, from 10 AM – 3 PM.
